Eloping to Lake Tahoe

Our visit to lala land, otherwise known as California

When my husband and I decided to get married we wanted something low key and easy. We didn't want a wedding with filled with decisions, flowers, accommodations and stress so we decided to elope. We wanted it to be just his adult children and us. He chose the venue, made all the arrangements and we took off for Lake Tahoe. We flew from Pensacola to Atlanta and Atlanta to Sacramento. Then we drove in a rental car to Lake Tahoe. It took 15 hours! I was exhausted. What were we thinking?!
When we arrived at the Hard Rock in South Lake Tahoe it was close to midnight and I just wanted to sleep. I opened my suitcase and everything was wet, well damp really. Apparently my bag got rained on either in Pensacola or Atlanta, where we had rain delays prior to departure. So I had to take everything out of my bag and hang it all over the room to dry.
The next morning we met the kids in the restaurant to have breakfast and then went to the casino. When we arrived the night before it was late and we couldn't see a thing. The day was sunny and about 60 degrees....just beautiful. The area is lovely with tall Ponderosa pines everywhere. The landscape is breathtaking. But those pine trees have some powerful pollen. My eyes were burning and watering whenever I was outside. Then when I was inside the casino the smoke made it worse. I would have to go to the room, remove my makeup and wash my face numerous times a day. My eyes were constantly very red and watery. The allergy medication I bought across the street at CVS didn't help so I just went with it.
We got married on Friday evening at a wedding chapel in S. Lake Tahoe. It was a lovely setting and the officiant was an old hippie who was a dropout ex-lawyer from Northern California. It all turned out so nice and I couldn't have planned it better myself.
We asked around for the best restaurant in the area and everyone said Friday's Station on top of Harrah's. So off we went. The food and service was wonderful but the view was the big draw.
The next day was spent relaxing & gambling. My time inside the casino or outside in the pollen filled air was limited so I tried to make the best of it. Sunday we got up and drove back to Sacramento and checked in to our hotel by the capital for more R & R. The Tower Bridge over the Sacramento River was just outside our window. After had a nice lunch and dinner at the hotel, we rested up for the long travel day ahead of us. Little did we know how long....
Everything was going just fine until we got close to Atlanta. Apparently there was some really bad weather that shut down the airport for 2 hours which threw everything into chaos. We were stuck at the Atlanta airport for 8 hours and finally got home 19 hours later at 3am on Tuesday. There's no place like home. Honeymoon postponed.....LOL!
